Kassim Ouma (boxing)

• He was part of Uganda's team for the World Military Championships in San Antonio, Texas in 1997. Now based in Germany, Ouma got his first win fighting against Verno Phillips in North Dakota in 2001.

• 2004- Beat Verno Phillips to win the IBF l/middle title
• 2006 - won the world title fight against Jermain Taylor.

• Has a record of 29 wins (18kos), 11 and 1 draw, 1 no contest as a loss

Majid Musisi (football)

• Uganda's first professional footballer to make it to Europe, 
• He was taken up by SC Villa in 1984

• He was nicknamed ‘Tyson' and ‘Magic'
• He had a successful eight-year stint at Villa Park before joining Stade Rennes in France in 1992. The next season he joined Turkish premier league giants Bursaspor. He then moved to Dardanelspor for a record Ugandan transfer fee of $1m (sh 1.8bn) for two seasons, ending his professional career there.

 


• He relocated to London and returned to Kampala three years later. He joined Ggaba United.

• He died 13 December 2005

Riyaz Kurji (motor rally)

Died 02nd May 2009 in one of the competitive sections of the KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda rally in Mityana after he veered off the road, hit an anthill and a tree before he rolled several times.

He took up the sport in 2004 after cruising past a rally car on a test run in Mukono.

In the 2004 Pearl of Africa Rally, he offered Emma Katto a Mitsubishi Evo7 which he ended up rolling.

In 2005, he sponsored drivers, Ronald Ssebuguzi, Moses Lumala, Bob Roberts, Amin Lalani and Bux Kasamali (RIP) under the Alpha Rally team in Rwanda's Mountain Gorilla Rally.

In the same year, he lost crew members Bux Kasamali and Muhamoud Khan, in a service car after they inhaled generator fumes while sleeping at Namanga, Tanzania border.

 

In 2006 with the new Pearl of Africa organizers uncertain whether the rally would take place because of a cash crisis, Kurji gave the event a timely sh80m offer.

His big heart stretched to the sponsorship of the Mbarara rally and beyond the border to Rwanda where he also funded the Mountain Gorilla Rally.
