Rakai man strangles seven-year-old son

RAKAI -A manhunt has been launched in Rakai for the man said to have killed his own son before throwing his body in the Kibale River.

Benson Majidu, 40, a resident of Lukyamu village, Byakabanda sub-county in Rakai district is believed to have killed Mathias Kabagambe, 7, by strangulation.

Although it's not yet clear as to what sparked off Majidu's fury to kill his own son, residents claim he killed his son after his wife left him for another man.

Kabagambe had stayed with his father (Majidu) for a week when the incident occurred.

According to Baker Kiwanuka, the sub-county chairperson, the boy's body was discovered by Kibale residents.

Police retrieved the body and took it for postmortem which revealed strangulation.

Ben Nuwamanya, the Rakai district Police Commander, said they are hunting for Majidu over the alleged murder.

He will be charged with murder and produced in court after conclusive investigation.

Nuwamanya further noted that they got reports that Majidu could have killed his son after his wife left him and got married to another man in Lwensambya village in a neighboring sub-county of Kibanda sub-county.

In a related incident, James Ssali of Byakabanda sub-county killed his brother Peter Lukwago accusing him of stealing his Waragi.

Eyewitnesses said a brawl erupted in a local bar between the two brothers leaving Lukwago dead.

Ssali in custody at Rakai district Police headquarters and according to Nuwamanya, he will be charged with murder.

Nuwamanya further urged residents to engage local leaders for guidance on issues beyond their control to avoid trouble.
