Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) fraternity is mourning their student whose body was found lying in a pool of blood at a sewage bridge between TASO village in medical cell and Katete cell in Mbarara municipality.

Ryan Muhumuza Umar, the guild president of MUST, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Brian Akampurira, a second-year student of medicine.

"We regret the untimely death of Akampurira Brian, who was murdered by uncultured swines," a post from office of the guild president reads in part.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional police spokesperson, said the incident happened last night. He noted that after getting information, they rushed to the scene and picked the body.

The body is currently at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Emmy Kateera, the Mbarara deputy resident district commissioner, said Akampulira comes from Rukungiri municipality and is a son to Paul Twinomwe, a primary school teacher.

"It is so sad that we have lost a young man in his second year at the university. People who knew him have said he has been a humble boy since he went through Kitabi Seminary," he said.

Kateera called upon the public to always know that security starts with an individual before security agencies come in.

"When you are moving at night, why would you move in places that are very dangerous with no lights? I am sure Akampurira was alone and that is why he was unable to fight his killers," he added.

Kateera cautioned the public to be security conscious, especially at night, so that they do not fall into the traps of wrong elements.
