KCCA FC defender Samuel Kato Nemeyimana has expressed his admiration for former teammate Timothy Awany and hopes to emulate him at the club.

"I have been blessed to play with players like Timothy Awany before he left the club. I want to emulate him," Joyful Kato stated.

Kato also noted that Awany's calmness and command on and off the pitch overwhelmed him a lot during his time at the club.

"The way he was comfortable on the ball and his leadership on and off the pitch was second to none", the young star explained.

Awany joined KCCA FC while still a teenager from Kibuli Secondary School.

He managed to win two league titles, Uganda Cup and also guiding the club to the group stages of both CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Last season, he captained KCCA FC to her thirteenth Uganda premier league title and also represented Uganda Cranes in the Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Egypt where he played two games.

It is from this remarkable performance that Kato draws passion to emulate him at Coach Mike Mutebi's team.

Kato who is expected to start in the central defense against Petro de Luanda in the CAF Champions league return leg match on Friday at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo is confident they will knockout their opponents and qualify for the group stages.

"We went to Angola with confidence and played for our lives, fans, pride and we picked up a decent result away from home, now we are left with 90 minutes to decide our fate, and we know what is at stake, plus we want to make history and get back to the group stages again", Kato reasons.
