UMI fraternity mourns Dr. Ninsiima

OBITUARY  TRIBUTE 

Tributes have been paid to Dr. Jemimah Ninsiima, the former finance and accounting consultant at Uganda Management Institute (UMI), who passed on at Nsambya Hospital on Sunday at the age of 38.

Ninsiima, a tax and revenue administration specialist was also a lecturer at Uganda Christian University (UCU).

Prior to her death, she had just completed her PHD at Northwest University, South Africa and, was preparing herself for the graduation function at the university, which is scheduled for next week. Her funeral service took place at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala on Tuesday.

Among those who eulogised Ninsiima was the Director-General of UMI, Dr. James Nkata, who described the deceased as a "young academician, intellectual, mentor and trainer."

"She was a jolly young lady, intelligent and sociable. We have lost her zeal, smile and beauty. She was a flower of the institute. Whenever we had a function, we ensured she was one of the ushers so that our guests could see her beauty."

The Chairman of the Governing Council of UMI, Chevalier Francis Xavier Lubanga said the fraternity had lost a "daughter, friend, and colleague in service."

"She was a lady of purpose. We invested enormously in her hoping she would strengthen the institution's capacity and stature to nurture PHD programmes. She was a source of inspiration. Her demise is a great loss to the institution. We are even more saddened that she passed on shortly after achieving the highest academic qualification."

Lady Kellen Niwamanya, used phrases like "my beautiful girl," "my pillar," "my genius girl," to highlight the awesome character and qualities of her daughter.

Ninsiima was also eulogised fondly by the Vice-Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, Rev Dr John Senyonyi and her contemporaries: Jacqueline Kamuhanga (Mary Hill High School), Molly Kamba (King's College Budo) and Daphine Tasobya (Makerere Business School).

Fact file

Dr. Jemimah Ninsiima was born to Kellen Niwamanya and the late Benon Niwamanya on November 18, 1981.

She attended Boma PS, King's College Budo, Mary Hill High School, Makerere Business School (Bachelor of Commerce, 2003), London South Bank University (MSc, Accounting) and Northwest University, SA (PHD).

Dr. Ninsiima was a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (2009).

She is survived by her children, Jerome Mugarura and Daniella Jada Businge.
