CHAN: Cranes draw first blood in Burundi

As things stand, Burundi will need to score a minimum of three goals without reply in the return leg

Uganda Cranes is on the verge of qualifying for its fifth African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals following a convincing 3-0 victory over Burundi in the first leg of the second qualifying round on Saturday at Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura.

Debutant Vianne Ssekajugo gave Cranes the lead during a breathless first half before skipper Muzamiru Mutyaba doubled the lead in the 83rd minute.

 

Left-back Mustafa Kizza fired Uganda's third goal to make it 3-0 as Cranes won their second away game in the qualifiers, the first being a 3-1 victory over Somalia.

As things stand, Burundi will need to score a minimum of three goals without reply in the return leg on October 18 at Lugogo.

More than 20 countries are engaged in qualifiers for the 15 places to join hosts Cameroon at next year's tournament.
