Despite missing some of his top players, national badminton coach William Kabindi is confident his team has the capacity to win the Bosch East Africa Badminton Challenge next month.

Kabindi explained that his team does not depend on a few individuals and that he has got more than enough players to form a strong squad for the championship.

Uganda will face Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Brazil.

Simon Mugabi, the Uganda Badminton Association Chief Executive Officer said the three-day tournament will see a Chinese category added on the menu.

"Our focus is to make this event an all people embracing tournament as we build it into a bigger and more competitive championship," Mugabi said.

"And because of that, we have added the Chinese category this year, on top of the usual Indian, Corporate, nationals, professionals, University and school categories."

The tournament sponsored by Bosch will take place next month October 4-6 at Lugogo Arena National Council of Sports Complex.

The Indian Chairman in Uganda Mohan Rao lauded City Tyres and Bosch for supporting charity activities like sports and urged others to emulate them.

"Uganda has got very many talented athletes, but they lack facilities and equipment to use in developing their talents. I am happy City Tyres and Bosch have taken up the mantle and I appeal to companies in Uganda to support sports," Mohan said.

Last year, Uganda's Brian Kasirye and Gladys Mbabazi were the Most Outstanding Male and Female players respectively.
