"These days we see many Christians roaming churches, looking out for miracles. I don't think any Christian should wander about in search of a miracle.

If you want to see the divine power of God, just seek the intercession of the Uganda Martyrs. They have helped us to accomplish enormous projects such as the redevelopment of Namugongo Catholic Martyrs Shrine.

The holy martyrs have now enabled us to construct St Ponsiano Ngondwe Catholic sub-parish church. None of us thought we could finish the church, when we started its construction about one year ago."

These joyous statements were made by the parish-priest of Namugongo Catholic Martyrs Shrine, the Very Rev Fr Vincent Lubega, during the celebration of the first mass at the newly constructed church of St Ponsiano Ngondwe sub-parish, Mbalwa.

The church, located in Kira Municipality, was built by the sub-parishioners, with the moral and financial assistance of the parish council of Namugongo Shrine. Owing to its unique architecture, the church has greatly boosted the area's attractive appearance.

Architectural Marvels

St Ponsiano Ngondwe sub-parish church has a number of striking features that define its uniqueness. It has a steel structure, which describes its durability. It also has a marvelous shiny cross at its foreside.

The church's beauty is further enhanced by its stylish glass curtain walls, the bell-towers and the aluminum iron sheets, which Engineer Fredrick Lwanga said were imported from abroad.  The church is also fitted with a basement, an interior gallery, and, a spacious terrace.

History

The sub-parish's head of the laity, Ronald Bwire Obaso, explained that the piece of land on which the church sits was donated by the family of the late Protasio Ayigihugu, who was a prominent Catholic lawyer and philanthropist.

Bwire said the building committee is yet to calculate the exact amount of money that the project has consumed since the building materials were mainly donated by the Christians in kind."

Although the church is now in use, there are still some crucial works that are yet to be accomplished.  These include the water drainage system, the roof, the electric installations, the tiles, and the tabernacle."

The Mayor of Kira, Julius Mutebi Nsubuga thanked the sub-parishioners of Mbalwa for their solidarity and goodwill, which he said had enabled them to put up a modern church. He later encouraged them to partner with the leadership of the municipality to develop the area's infrastructure.
