President receives UN special envoy for Great Lakes Region

The President and his guests discussed the latest developments in the economic, social and political sectors of the countries in the Great Lakes Region.

President Yoweri Museveni has held talks with the United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Huang Xia and his delegation whom he hosted at Kisozi in Gomba district.

Huang, according to a release from State House appreciated Museveni's efforts of always advocating for peace in the region and for his continued effort to promote the peace process in neighbouring South Sudan,

During the interaction, the President stressed the need for Africa to integrate adding that it was the only way for the continent to survive.

"Economic integration aims at four stages; the customs union, common market, monetary union and ultimately political federation.

Here in East Africa, we recently agreed to form a confederation which is in the process; this is the way to go," he said.
