WAKISO - Residents of Buloba in Wakiso district are living in fear after a wave of iron-bar hitmen started terrorizing villages. They break into houses in the wee hours of the night, rob money and electronic appliances.

People suspect that the gangsters mainly youth who move in a group of between 10 and 12 are normally armed with hammers, machetes, knives, and break-in tools. They surprise their victims by accessing even barricaded homes with ease.

On Tuesday morning, at about 2:00 am, the thugs broke into the home of Charles Kibuuka Mikisa at the Bwotansimbi-Kiweesa zone in Buloba Parish.

In a surprise attack, they cornered the home guard only identified as Bosco, beat him into submission, tied him and locked him inside his room at the main gate, which gave them leeway to terrorize members of the family for almost an hour, uninterrupted.   Kibuuka is a spare parts dealer at Park View arcade in Kampala and his wife works at Qualicell building.

The attack, which left Kibuuka, his wife Immaculate and the guard nursing serious injuries was one in a series of attacks in Buloba.

The Police said the thugs dismantled the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) network and gained access to the house. Kibuuka, Immaculate and Bosco were admitted at Mengo Hospital where they were receiving treatment.

Kibuuka's elder son, Henry Bbosa said he woke up and found a man had placed a machete on his neck. "It was like I was watching a movie in my sleep, I saw a man standing by and had placed a pang on my neck. He warned me not to make noise or else he slaughters me," he narrated his ordeal.

He said the thugs took money in his bag, two laptops, and five television screens but he pleaded with one of them to spare his academic papers, which he accepted.

Kibuuka, speaking from his hospital bed said the attackers demanded money and threw at them over sh3.5m, his phones, and other items.

Kibuuka's family members, however, complained that the policed in Katwe were hesitant to intercept the suspected thugs after tracking them up to Entebbe road using an I-phone tracker on one of the phones robbed.

Bbosa said he used his sister's iPhone to locate the people who had taken his phone, who he said on several instances were in a short distance from Katwe police where he allegedly reported the matter.

The area Local Council(LC) Chairperson Issa Mulunda stated that police dogs that were brought in the morning were able to recover one television screen the thugs abandoned in a small bush where they loaded their loot.

LC officials from the neighbouring zones indicated that gangsters had attacked several homes and pubs, robbing in a similar style.

Dan Kiwanuka said recently the same group attacked a resident, tied him up and robbed him of cash and a car. They also kidnapped his wife. He said the wife and car were found the next morning abandoned at Maganjo along Kampala-Gulu road.

Another businessman in the area who requested to remain anonymous said his home, which also has a pub was attacked and customers were robbed of money and phones. They also took television screens and cash from the cashier.

"They came with a vehicle on which they would load their loot and drive off," he said.
