KAMPALA - The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Women's League chairperson, Ingrid Terinawe has been charged and remanded to Luzira Prisons over common nuisance and assaulting a police officer.

On Monday, Turinawe, an activist, appeared before Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate, Stella Amabilis to plea to the charges and denied to all the two counts.

The learned state attorney Miriam Njuki informed the court that investigations in the matter were still ongoing and requested for an adjournment.

"Your honour, inquiries in the matter are still ongoing, we pray you to fix another date for mention of the case," Njuki told the court.

Prior to prosecution submission, the defense counsels Elias Lukwago and Isaac Ssemakadde sought to apply for bail for the accused but in vain as the magistrate stated it was beyond time to hear any bail application.

"Please counsel, we are beyond the time that I cannot handle any bail application now, I have other files to handle and it is coming to six O'clock.

I will listen to your bail claim on the next date I will give," Amabilis said as she adjourned the case to August 16, 2019.

On conviction, Turinawe will be liable to one-year imprisonment for both the offences respectively.

The prosecution alleges that on August 4, 2019, at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala in the central division, Turinawe did an act that caused annoyance or inconvenienced the public leading to the conclusion that she was a common nuisance.

The accused also assaulted detective-sergeant Patrick Alunyu thereby occasioning him to actual bodily harm.
