Seiko's bodyguard to know fate next week

The High Court has set August 14 as the date it will deliver judgment on murder charges against Maj. Juma Seiko's bodyguard.

When the case came up on Monday for judgment, Judge Flavia Anglin Senoga informed the court that the judgment is not ready and adjourned to August 14.

Last week, court assessors asked the court to find Alex Cherotich guilty of all the four counts of murder and attempted murder which he was charged with, stating that prosecution has proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Murder attracts a maximum penalty of death on conviction while attempted murder attracts a maxim sentence of life imprisonment on conviction.

The prosecution alleges that on December 4, while at Seiko's residence in Nakasero, Kampala, Cherotich an ex-Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) soldier used a gun to kill a one Lameck Ogwang and Fred Ssembatya.

It alleges that on the same day, he also injured David Ssenkubuge and Solomon Mugabi.

However, in his defence, Cherotich denied being a guard at Seiko's home but rather a cleaner.
