Seiko's bodyguard charged with murder

Maj. Juma Seiko's body guard has been charged with four counts of murder and remanded to Luzira Prison.

Alex Cherotich, 28, was produced before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani who read to him the four counts of murder.

He was not allowed to take plea because murder is a capital offence which only tried by the High Court.

Karemani also read to him two other alternative counts of attempted murder of a one David Ssenkubuge, a security supervisor at security firm SGA and Solomon Mugabi, a boda boda rider along Balintuma road, in the city suburb Mengo.

Cherotich appeared calm in court as the charges were being read to him.

Murder attracts a maximum penalty of death on conviction while attempted murder attracts a maxim sentence of life imprisonment on conviction.

Prosecution alleges that on December, 4, while at Maj. Seiko's residence in Nakasero hill in Kampala, Cherotich an ex-Uganda Peoples Defense Force (UPDF) soldier used a gun to kill a one Lameck Ogwang and Fred Ssembatya.

It alleges that on the same day, he also injured David Ssenkubuge and Solomon Mugabi.
