'Dr Agaba was the hope of our family'

Dr Catherine Agaba has been the hope of the family of six according to her paternal uncle Enos Kaviri, who moved mourners to tears during a requiem mass at Our Lady of Africa Church in Mbuya, Kampala.

Kaviri also said the news of her gruesome murder of the 26-year-old medic had devastated her father, Fred Rutagumba, who did not attend the requiem mass. Agaba lost her mother Ustine Rutagumba when she was aged six.

"He (Rutagumba) worked so hard to educate the daughter and took her to good schools and she was the hope of the family," Kaviri said.

Agaba's remains were discovered in a septic tank in the compound where she was renting an apartment in Muyenga, a Kampala suburb. She was reported missing on April 13.

Police on Tuesday arrested security guard Ronald Obangakene after he confessed to the murder and was allegedly found with the deceased's personal effects.

In a homily, Rev. Father Anthony Kibira, noted that Agaba's murder highlights the gravity of the evil man is still capable of committing.

Speaker after speaker during the requiem mass described Agaba as amiable, humble, and hardworking as well as someone who was committed to her profession.

Agaba will be laid to rest at Kagongi village, Kashari North in Mbarara district on Wednesday.
