Uganda must finish among the top two places to book a place at the main Africa Qualifier

East Africa Zone Pre-Africa Olympic Qualifier (Nairobi, April 5-7)

The Uganda national baseball team is made for the big stage. But can they pull off the unprecedented and qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics?

Surely, they will and hunger for history is visible on the side that has carefully prepared and planned for the global meet.

Interestingly, the players have displayed the technical nous especially in the schools' events and the league from when it was announced that baseball and softball would return on the Olympic programme.

The national team remains employed in regional events including the upcoming East Zone pre-Africa Olympic qualifiers today in Nairobi, Kenya.

"Of course, it takes more than just the desire but a special dedicated programme to compete at the level of the Olympics. We have worked hard towards that and I am happy with the progress," said coach John Bosco Ssempa.

Uganda must finish among the top two places to book a place at the main Africa qualifier to be played from May 1-5 in South Africa, joining Nigeria and Burkina Faso.

"It has been a long journey getting where we are. There is genuine progress in spite of some financial hardships," said UBASA president Dennis Kasozi.
