It is a massive boost and who knows, Phillip Wokorach's availability for the HSBC Hong Kong Sevens could be the beginning of a Ugandan fairy tale. That is the hope, the best case scenario.
Tolbert Onyango named his squad for the next month's HSBC Hong Kong Sevens qualifiers and as expected, he included a slew of his tried and tested charges, not least the dependable Wokorach, whose participation in the event had been all but ruled out last week.
The Kenya-based superstar was a huge doubt after his club Kabras Sugar expressed a strong desire in retaining him for their title run-in against KCB and it seemed as though Uganda would lose out.
But Wokorach joined up with the squad on Sunday and Onyango summarily pencilled his name into the final line-up.
As the skipper Michael Wokorach noted, Wokorach's presence is the first win for the Uganda Sevens.
"His coming has given us a lot of confidence," Wokorach told New Vision Sport. "We have a strong side full of talent and experience and Wokorach is going to make us even stronger."
Uganda is in Pool F alongside the Cook Islands, Chile and Germany, who eliminated them in last season's qualifiers with a 26-0 quarterfinals defeat in the.
The full squad that has been in a one month training stint has Pius Ogena, Desire Ayera, Michael Wokorach, Isaac Massa, Ian Munyani, Bayron Oketayot, Paul Masendi, Aron Ofoirwoth, Andrian Kasito, Philip Wokorach, Timothy Kisiga and Joseph Aredo.
