Handball: Uganda chasing qualification in Zanzibar

The teams are in good shape and targeting qualification for the Zone V Africa Championships

U18: Uganda v Kenya (2 pm)

U20: Uganda v Djibouti (4 pm) 

Uganda's national handball teams on Tuesday face off against their opponents in the International Handball Federation (IHF) girls' tournament chasing nothing short of victory.

Uganda opens its campaign in the U18 category against Kenya before facing Tanzania and Sudan in the group stages on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. 

In the U20 category, Uganda takes on Djibouti before tackling Burundi. They end their group stage fixtures against Sudan. 

According to Saudha Babirye the Uganda Handball Federation secretary, the teams are in good shape and targeting qualification for the Zone V Africa Championships.

The tournament is meant to expand the reach of age grade handball and the winners of the tournament will qualify for the inter-continental championships later this year. 

The inter-continental championships will be qualifiers for the 2020 IHF Women's Junior World Cup Championships due in Romania. 

"Our target is making to the world championships and I'm hopeful that we can make it to the superior stage," Babirye stated.
