You can keep chicken anywhere
New Vision's Andrew Masinde:
Keeping chicken is always looked at as the hardest bit for any farmer. However, Laban Rutareberwa, the national co-ordinator of C-care Uganda, says you can keep chicken just about anywhere - even right in tour compound.
At the Harvest Money Expo, he demonstrates how you can keep chicken in a 6ft-by-3ft table. In the table, there are two compartments, one for chicks and the other for the mother chicken.
The mother chicken acts as a warmer in the cage, which has space where the chicks can feed in and also take water.
"The cage can accommodate about 30 chicks and after the chicks are one month old, you can easily transfer them to a much bigger space. This cage can be used anywhere, even in rentals," says Rutareberwa.
