9 people are being held in connection with the murder of a 34-year-old carpenter.

The deceased, Ronald Mukama, was killed in Bukyaye village Nakalama sub-county Iganga district recently after an angry mob pounced on him accusing him of theft of timber worth sh50,000.

According to a Police source, Mukama was beaten by the mob before he was whisked away to Iganga Central Police Station by Police.

He was then rushed to Iganga Main Hospital after realising that his life was in danger but he instead fled from the hospital and returned to his home in Bukyaye village.

A mob armed with sticks and stones soon gathered at his home and beat him to death.

Some of the suspects have been identified as Peter Wampa, Taddeo Ntamba, Farouk Muzeyi, Yakuti Bulolo and Friday Juma.

The Iganga district Police commander Davis Ndawula said investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

Ndawula cautioned locals against taking the law into their hands since it has claimed the lives of several innocent people.
