Buikwe project to boost financial inclusion, create jobs

The Buikwe project whose implementation starts next year is set to create over 300 jobs and enhance financial inclusion in the area.

This, according to CTI Africa, a tech company implementing the project, financial inclusion will be done through establishing assisting in access to finance, clean energy and medical care.

"Financial inclusion is one of the challenges facing the country. Only 5% of the area households own bank accounts, however, with this partnership with EcoBank and micro finance support Centre, accounts will be opened from which people will access loans from Government," said Michael Landau, the executive director CTI Africa.

Landau noted that once access to finance is eased, more businesses will be set up.

Approximately 1,300 households will benefit from this pilot scheme as it slowly expands to other regions in Uganda.

"Deploying smart solution will jump start the local economy, increase employment and greatly improve the quality of residents. By leveraging data, Buikwe project will be providing tailor made solutions to the people in the areas of agriculture, insurance, education and health," said Landau.

According to him, the recently launched LifeMobile with special features in healthcare, mobile banking, insurance, microfinance and education will contribute big to the success of Buikwe project.

The smart phones will be handed to households, individuals and they can pay for them over time. "Microfinance Access to finance is an important factor for economic growth.

Our microfinance service unit will ease access to finance for over 1,300 families in Buikwe.

These loans will be for; home package; solar unit, cooker, smart phones, agricultural loans," he stated.

New Vison learnt that CTI Africa has signed partnership agreements with Jubilee insurance, Jumia Uganda, MTN, GAT3WAY Talent and National Enterprise Corporation in a bid to strengthen its base to create jobs for the population.

"Buikwe project is not only ground breaking, but with this, Uganda is meeting sustainable development goals of no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being among others.

We may not achieve all of them at once but this is the start," said Amin Mawji, the ambassador Aga Khan Development Network.

Daniel Nsaba Buturo, the managing director GAT3WAY Talent  said:

"Assisting investors to invest in Uganda by supporting them with their human resource needs, for example finding the best talent for their needs is a service that GAT3WAY Talent  provides with joy."

He added: "We are happy to be partners with CTI Africa in empowering the less privileged in society to enable them access this benefits through smart mobile phones that the company has designed."
