CRIME

WAKISO-Unknown thugs on Friday night attacked the manager of National water and Sewerage Corporation, Matugga branch, beat him up and robbed him of household property, including his vehicle.

Armed with house-breaking implements, the thugs broke into the house of Julius Kavuma Kato at his home in Kiteezi, Wakiso district, at around 3:00am, tied him with ropes and stole his household items.

He said the stolen items include; two laptops, six mobile phones and his vehicle, a black Subaru Forester registration number UBB 180D, a Television (TV) set and an unidentified amount of cash.

According to Kato, he reported a case of robbery at Kiteezi police station on Saturday November 3, and the case is referenced as SD REF 11/03/11/018.

"The thieves cut my burglar proof door, entered my house, tied me up and beat me up before they took many of my belongings. I am still traumatized, I can sleep at night," he explained. The thugs were armed with knives and iron bars among other implements.

A police officer who did not want to be named said they were investigating the matter, adding that such break-ins had become a common occurrence especially on the outskirts of Kampala.

The attack on Kato comes a few days after thugs attacked and killed Archie Rwego, a brother-in-law to the Criminal Investigations Directorate boss, Grace Akullo, in Najjera, Wakiso district.

Like in Kato's attack, the thugs walked away with Rwego's TV set and two bags belonging to his wife and an unspecified amount of money that was in the bags. Rwego was a sales manager with Boma Tiles and a husband to Dora Rwego, a niece to Akullo.

However, in Rwego's case, a dog attacked one of the assailants leaving him with bites and scratches. It was these scratches that led to the arrest of one of the suspects who had gone to a health facility to seek medical attention.
