The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has mourned the former Attorney General of Uganda Peter Nyombi.

In a condolence statement read by the party vice chairperson for Greater Kampala, Dr. Gideon Akomo, the party lauded Nyombi's contribution to the country.

"The party extends its heartfelt condolence message to the bereaved family and the country for the loss of Nyombi. We pray to the gracious Lord to grant family courage and strength to overcome this challenging moment," Akomo remarked.

Nyombi passed away on Sunday at SAS Clinic in Kampala where he had been rushed after developing breathing complications.

He died at the age of 64 and is survived by a wife and four children.

According to burial arrangements, his body will lay in state on Wednesday at Parliament before being transported to Nakasongola district where he will be buried at his country home on Thursday.

Also during the weekly party press conference at the UPC headquarters at Uganda House in Kampala, the party also mourned its Soroti district chairman Okello Elepu who died recently.

"He was a good leader who mentored many young people into leadership. It is indeed a huge loss to the family and the party, since elders around the community are the sources of wisdom and advice. We shall always remember his enormous contribution to the development of our party and the nation as part of his legacy," Akomo said.
