Nakaayi finishes second behind Semenya in Berlin

Halima Nakaayi is continually seeing Caster Semenya as her biggest barrier to middle distance glory.

Nakaayi was at the weekend again beaten to second position in the 1000 meters by the South African multiple medal winner.

Semenya beat Nakaayi at the annual ISTAF athletics meet in Berlin, Germany.

The Ugandan clocked two minutes 34.88 seconds in the Berlin Olympic stadium.

Semenya, who is also unbeaten in the women's 400, 800 and 1500 meters this season, won the race in 2:30.70.

Semenya had earlier also beaten the Ugandan duo of Nakaayi and Winnie Nanyondo in the Pretoria Grand Prix.

As Nakaayi strode to second position another Ugandan Stella Chesang finished third in the Tilburg Ten Mile road race in the Netherlands.
Chesang who won Commonwealth gold in April has lately struggled to impress.

Nakaayi last month was again in the headlines as she broke the national 800m record at a meet in Nancy, France.

The ISTAF meet falls under the International Association of Athletics Federation's World Challenge Meetings.

This is an annual global circuit of fourteen one day athletics competitions. Started in 2010 it comprises the second level (after the IAAF Diamond League) of athletics meetings over the season.

The spotlight now shifts to the September 8-9 Continental Cup in Ostrava where Uganda will have only one representative.

Ronald Musagala (1500m), a bronze medalist at the just concluded Africa Championship, will be the lone Ugandan competitor in the Czech Republic.
