A number of records stand at Dolphins Fast and Furious swimming gala

Despite winning the 100m IM Karimah Katemba’s 1:27.19 was short of breaking White Heathers 1:19.98 over the same distance by 7.21 seconds.

The Dolphins produced six overall winners with the Silverfin producing four, as the second edition of the Dolphins Fast and Furious Invitational gala ended at the Gems Cambridge International School on Saturday.

David Sine, Karimah Katemba, Tendo Kaumi, Kirabo Namutebi and Ambara Atuhaire were the top performers on the day for the Dolphins while Raya Angemi, Yonah Lumonya, Karla Mugisha and Selina Katumba came top for the Silverfins in the 8&under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15&over respectively in the one-day annual event that attracted over 100 swimmers.

In the 8 and under category, Dolphins' David Sine produced the best performance on the day winning the 100m IM, 25m breaststroke & backstroke, 50m breaststroke & backstroke, relegating Rieck Jeremy, Fredrick Luzinnda, Jeremiah Magera, Elijah Asiimwe, Suubi Musoke and brothers Samora Lumonya and Joshua Lumonya in the different races on the day.

Tendo Kaumi's 1:17.77 over the same distance was also short of Seals' Francesco Kagugube's time of 1:11.46 set during last year's event. Kevin Rugaaju and Shane Birungi finished second and third in; 1:19.92 and 1:21.84 respectively.

In the 13-14 Kirabo Namutebi (1:09.11) continued her dominance beating Silverfin's Mercedes Mwebeiha (1:14.29) and Swagia Mubiru (1:19.79) in a record setting display in the Individual Medley while Silverfin's Selina Katumba (1:14.53) was a class apart over Dolphins Hannat Nakimuli who clocked 1:30.49.

Ambala Atuhaire (1:01.77) was also in good form beating team mates Adnan Kabuye and Tendo Mukalazi by 46 microseconds and 2.62 seconds respectively.

Next year, swimmers will have to work extra hard to break a number of records set by the different swimmers over the 25 and 50m breast, freestyle, back and butterfly races. The event was sponsored by Harris International through their Riham Brand.
