Mbarara defeat Vipers in a preseason friendly

KAMPALA - New recruit Umaru Muss Muhinzi was on target for the Kakyeka based side. 

The Ankole lions put up a comprehensive performance when they beat the Uganda premier league champions, Vipers football club 1-0 in a preseason friendly played at Kakyeka stadium on Wednesday evening.

Following a barren first half, Umaru netted against the Kitende side in the last 10 minutes of the game with defender Jasper Ahabwa providing the assist.

The Ankole lions, coached by Livingstone Mbabazi looked an improved side compared to last season's show when they struggled to make points to remain in the top tier for their second season.

Their win against the Venoms is proof that the Mbarara side is in good shape for the upcoming season that starts September.

Meanwhile, Vipers loss to Mbarara is the first in history for the Venoms' new Mexican coach Javier Martinez who replaced Miguel Da Costa.

Da Coasta was sacked last month. The champions have so far playedseven matches winning six and losing one.

They beat Mbale Select (3-1),Natete (1-0),Sironko (8-0),Kataka (3-0),Mbale Heroes (6-0),CRO (3-1) and registered a loss to Mbarara city (0-1).

Vipers faces newly UPL Promoted Nyamityobora FC today at Kakyeka Stadium while Mbarara city's next game will be at Wankuluku against the Red eagles, Express FC.
