DEATH

KAMPALA - The principal medical officer in charge of mental health and substance abuse, Dr. Sheila Ndyanabangi, has died.

She suffered from cancer of the uterus.

Ndyanabangi passed on Saturday at Mulago hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

She was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus in 2016. In the same year she underwent surgery and had her uterus removed.

According to a statement issued by the health ministry's senior public relations Officer, Emmanuel Ainebyoona early last year during a routine check-up, blood test indicated that the cancer had spread to other organs in the lower abdomen.

"In March this year she was put on chemotherapy but the cancer was not responding to treatment, a swelling which had grown bigger was removed. However she remained very week but could still stand and walk,'' Ainebyoona said.

Ndyanabangi had refused to be taken abroad for treatment but rather preferred treatment from her colleagues.
