Uganda's chances of winning CECAFA Cup remain slim

The battle of who will win the trophy remains between Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Rwanda.

KIGALI - With two games left for the competition to be climaxed, National Women football team (Crested Cranes) will pray that their opponents Ethiopia, Tanzania and Rwanda drop points for them to be declared champions.

Crested Cranes top the table standings with seven points, one above second placed Ethiopia who have the game in their hands.

Tanzania and Rwanda come third and fourth with four points. Kenya is bottom with one point.

The battle of who will win the trophy remains between Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Rwanda.

Ethiopia faces Tanzania on Friday before Rwanda meets Kenya.  Even if Crested Cranes don't walk away with the trophy but they have lived up to their expectation. Faridah Bulega coached side has made big progress compared to the previous CECAFA Women Challenge Cup.

 They picked two wins, one draw and suffered one defeat.

The Challenge Cup that is played in a league format to determine the eventual champion will run till this Friday.

Hosts Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya,Tanzania and Uganda are the five nations competing in the tournament.

Tanzania are the defending champions of the event that was last held in Uganda in 2016 at FUFA Technical Centre,Njeru.

Tanzania beat arch rivals Kenya 2-1 to win the title. On their part, the Crested Cranes finished fourth after falling to Ethiopia 4-1 in the third place.
