A hotel in Uganda has innovated the longest 'rolex' measuring 5.4metres.

Best Western Premier Garden Hotel at Entebbe Victoria Mall recently held an event to make the longest rolex under the theme "Reach out to the needy teach to cook not to beg."

The general manager, Kumar Bhupendra, said the rolex was prepared by eight chefs.

A 'rolex' is a Ugandan street food recipe comprising of an omelette rolled in a chapatti.

"We used 100 eggs, 5kg of wheat flour, 6kg of tomatoes, 5kg of onions, two litres of cooking oil and 2kg of cabbage. We unveiled it in a function attended by the Entebbe Mayor, Kayanja Vincent de Paul, Charles Magumba the town clerk and Miss Tourism Challa Elma," he said.

"It is indeed the first 'rolex' of its kind," Kumar said.

The'rolex' was shared with all the guests and the remaining two metres was donated to a school of children with special needs in the neighbourhood. Pupils of the school were also trained how to make the recipe.

The function coincided with the Entebbe Tourism Festival that was hosted by Entebbe municipal council and Uganda Tourism Board in Entebbe.

The main event was at the Mayor's Gardens in Entebbe.

Asked how the team made it, Kumar explained that when they first decided to pull it off, they asked their chefs to come up with an innovative idea.

This involved building a special grill of 1.5metres.

On this, they prepared several 'rolexes' and kept joining them in a special skill that cannot show where the joints are.

The whole result was one long 'rolex'.

"In doing business, we want to appeal to both ends — local and international customers," Kumar said.

"Since 'rolex' is a popular street food in the entire East African region, we decided to make something for the community in a unique way — to impress the ordinary citizen."

Best Western Premier Garden Hotel is located at Victoria Mall in Entebbe. The five-star hotel was opened in June 2016.

It belongs to the American chain of 4,200 hotels in over 100 countries worldwide.
