KAMPALA - Despite going down 3-1 to Onduparaka in a charity match over the weekend, coach Mike Mutebi believes the match was of great benefit to many of the KCCA players.
The Lugogo side had new faces such as goalkeeper Hassan Matovu, Ibrahim Obonyo, Samuel Kato, Hassan Jurua, Innocent Atiku, as well as Frank Ssebuufu among others who had a good trial game despite their loss.
The charity match that was organised by Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU) through a partnership with Onduparaka FC and KCCA FC is to support New life Hospice Arua to establish a permanent home.
Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer. Like KCCA,Onduparaka also gave chance to some of their new players to feature in the game.
Striker Amis Muwonge from Doves FC who also scored on his debut is one of the new players that played for the West Nile side.
Viane Ssekajugo and Rajab Kakooza scored the other goals for Onduparaka while youngster Steven Sserwadda scored a beauty through a well taken free kick for KCCA.
KCCA will now have to travel to Arua for the second game that will be played at Green Light stadium on June 30.
The two events are expected to raise sh 500m, which is the estimated cost of establishing the first building for New life Hospice Arua with its facilities.
The building will house a patient's waiting room, three office rooms and hostel capacity for at least 20 cancer patients receiving treatment at Arua Regional referral Hospital and patients in transit after referral to Uganda Cancer institute (UCI).
Its reported that over sh7m was collected from both the first charity and dinner that was held at StarTimes stadium Lugogo over the weekend.
