KIGALI - Nemostars Volleyball Club head coach, Andrew Okapis believes he has a well composed team to win the 2018 Genocide memorial volleyball tournament that started today in Kigali, Rwanda.

The annual tournament is organised in memory of local volleyball players, coaches, administrators, fans and other Rwandans who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Okapis said that they have been preparing the team and all they need is to win the trophy which has always been dominated by hosts, Rwanda.

"Our backcourt is great. We have also been working on our middle blockers and we intend to play a very tactical game to win the knock out matches and mastermind a great victory in the finals," Okapis.

A part from Nemostars, Sky, KAVC, KCCA and VVC are some of the other Ugandan teams that have always taken part in the memorial tournament.

However, none of the  Ugandan teams has ever had the honor of winning the contest.

Nemostars, KAVC and Sky are fielding men's teams while VVC and Sport S have lady's teams, Nkumba is another side to field a ladies team though they had not confirmed by press time.

Out of the 30 registered teams APR, Gisagara, REG, UTB, Espoir (Congo Brazzaville and Faru club (Tanzania) in men's category while in the women's category Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and APR are some of the confirmed teams by press time.

Last year, APR dominated both the men and women categories after seeing off Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) respectively.

The matches will be played at Amahoro Outdoor grounds, National Paralympic Committee gymnasium, Kimisagara, Rafiki, KIST and Primature courts.

However, Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) has pumped Rwf4.5m (Ush22m) for the competition and cater for the prize money.
