Uganda to take part in the Davis Cup Africa Zone championships

Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) was today expected to sit and decide the four players who are supposed to represent Uganda in Kenya.

NAIROBI - A team of more than three players will  represent the country in the Davis Cup Africa Zone Group III Tennis championship.
 
The championship that will  run from June 18 to 23  shall be held  at the Nairobi Club. 
 
Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) was on Wednesday expected to sit and decide the four  players who are supposed to represent Uganda in Kenya. 
 
Among  the pool of players, chances are high that they might decide on Duncan Mugabe, David Oringa, Simon Ayella, Borris Aguma , Paul Ssekandi among others.
 
Hosts Kenya have been ranked seed two behind Benin. This is the first time Kenya is hosting the Davis Cup since 2002 in Mombasa where Kenya featured in Group II.
 
Uganda's appearance for such international events comes after Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) was readmitted by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) after clearing the debt of $22,500 (sh82m) and $3000 (sh10.9m) respectively.
 
Two weeks ago, Uganda hosted one the biggest event- ITF Pro Circuit Tournament that  was played for four weeks at the Lugog Tennis Complex.
