Ntungamo MP wants tax on schools lowered

MP Beatrice Rwakimari said such schools play a big role in educating the pupils of the nation, adding that whereas the institutions are private, the pupils are not.

NTUNGAMO - The Ntungamo district Woman MP, Beatrice Rwakimari, has promised to move a motion in the August House seeking to reduce taxes on private educational institutions.

Rwakimari said such schools play a big role in educating the pupils of the nation, adding that whereas the institutions are private, the pupils are not.

She made the promise during the 3rd graduation ceremony of Rwashamaire Vocational Institute in Kajara county, Ntungamo district over the weekend.

The function took place over the weekend at the institution's graduation grounds, where the 280 students graduated in various disciplines.

The MP urged students to embrace vocational studies, especially those whose parents cannot afford to pay school for their children at A'level and universities, adding that the skills acquired prepare them to create jobs.

She urged the graduates to use the skills they acquired to create jobs.

The MP commended the institute's proprietor, Kamahanga Dennis, for his vision of starting up the Rwashamaire Vocational Institute, which she said had moulded many youth.

Kamahanga urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of their former institute and thanked parents and guardians, who had trusted their children with the institute.

Students were awarded with diplomas and certificates like nursery teaching, accountancy, business management, secretarial studies, tourism and hotel management, motor vehicle mechanics, brick laying and concrete practice.

Others graduated in plumbing, computer science, and library and records management, among others.
