CECAFA U-17 Championship postponed

Uganda will have the chance to defend the CECAFA U-17 Championship title they won in 2009 when it was last held in Sudan.

The CECAFA U-17 Championship that was scheduled to kick off this week has been postponed. The tournament had been planned for April 1 to 15, but the hosts (Burundi) decided to postpone it to April 14 until 29.

Uganda Cubs (Uganda National U-17 team) had commenced preparations for the competition with a training camp at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, but the players were given a one week break and are expected to resume training this Friday.

The Cubs last took part in a competitive tournament in 2014 in the CAF U -17 qualifiers. Then the team went down 4-1 on aggregate to Zambia in the final round of the qualifiers.

The member countries expected to have teams in the competition include Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia and Eritrea.
