Background

Government of Uganda has received fi nancing from the World Bank towards implementati on of the Alberti ne Region Sustainable Development Project (ARSDP), and intends to apply part of the proceeds for the consulting services of an individual Consultant to prepare a Strategic Investment Plan for the Alberti ne Region.

The ARSDP is a World Bank-funded project implemented by three enti ti es, that is, The Uganda Nati onal Roads Authority (UNRA), Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHU&D), and Ministry of Education & Sports.

The Project responds to the recent discovery of commercial quanti ti es of oil and gas in the Alberti ne Graben Region, an "emerging sector which will feature prominently in Uganda's development in the decades to come, bringing both benefi ts and challenges".

The nascent oil and gas industry has generated high expectations among the populati on leading to actual and potenti al infl ux of populati on into the Alberti ne Region. Government of Uganda is aware of possible negative implications of such a scenario, which elsewhere in the world have culminated in an undesirable situati on commonly referred to as the oil curse.

As such, Government is determined to ensure that the Alberti ne Region benefi ts from the oil and gas industry, hence the ARSDP. The project targets improvements in the regional connecti vity, local connecti vity, economic infrastructure, and educati on and skills. CLCIK HERE FOR MORE ON THIS NOTICE
