State prosecutor arrested over corruption

William Bayo was arrested on Tuesday evening from Jojos Palace Hotel when he was allegedly going to receive a sh2m bribe to amend two charges against a theft suspect.

GULU - A senior state prosecutor at Gulu High Court has been arrested and charged with corruption.
 
William Bayo was arrested on Tuesday evening from Jojos Palace Hotel when he was allegedly going to receive a sh2m bribe to amend two charges against a theft suspect.
 
Aswa River Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said Bayo was being held at Gulu Central Police Station and a charge of corruption had been preferred against him under SD reference 73/20/03/2018.
 
According to Gulu resident district commissioner Capt. Okot Santo Lapolo, the prosecutor allegedly asked Joyce Ataro to give him sh2m to amend more charges of fraud and forgery against Laroo and Bardege woman councillor, Beatrice Aloyo, who is accused of stealing sh52m.
 
Santo said Ataro alerted him about the demand and security was deployed at the venue of the transaction, leading to the arrest.
