USIU Africa alumni urged to be supportive

KAMPALA - The vice-chancellor of United States International University Africa (USIU), Prof. Paul Tiyambe Zeleza, has asked the Ugandan alumni to love and support their former university. USIU is a private, secular and culturally diversified university at Kasarani, near Nairobi. The university has significant population of Ugandan students and alumni.

Zeleza (pictured left) argued that the alumni were important assets to their former institutions, which is why it was important for them to maintain their connection with their former institutions.

"As alumni, you have the responsibility to safeguard the reputation and wellbeing of your former university. You are teachers, donors and mentors of the university. When the profile of your former institution rises, the value of your degrees also increases. You should, therefore, strengthen the brand and promote the institution."

Zeleza made the remarks during the university's alumni dinner night at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel on Friday. The function was graced by several Ugandan alumni, who further to feasting also shared memories at the university.

He later asked the Ugandan alumni to engage their former institution by visiting and enticing their friends and family members to visit the university. He also asked them to contribute money towards the education of the needy but bright students at the university."

Prominent Ugandan alumni who graced the function include businessman Daniel Mugenga, Ivan Ssekajja (Canadian Smartec), Peter Byansi, Elizabeth Mutamuliza (media manager, Pepsi Uganda), Gloria Bakashaba Kagabo (creative director, Homes 4 U Limited) and Amina Namufamba (Lolo Kids Boutique Kiwatule).
