Mityana prepares for Women's Day celebrations

WOMEN | CELEBRATIONS

MITYANA - Hundreds of people on Wednesday gathered on the streets of Mityana municipality to take part in the different activities to mark the International Women's Day.

Banners and national flags were displayed on the roadsides.

At the Caltex Stage, traditional dancers started drumming and dancing by midday.

These were joined by other people, especially the NRM supporters, who celebrated expressing happiness to welcome the president who is expected to be the guest of honour.

Pupils and students from some schools such as St. Elizabeth High School and Fremma Day and Boarding Primary School, also had to forego classes so that they rehearse their songs expected to be sung on the event.

At Fremma Primary School, pupils have composed a song, which challenges women to make good use of government programmes, especially those targeting women.

At Busuubizi playground where the event will be held, district leaders joined the rest of the officials to organise the place.

The prisons band was also present rehearsing, and it is expected to play tomorrow on the event.

Yahaya Kakooza, the Mityana resident district commissioner, called upon residents to keep time and attend ion big numbers.

"This is a great opportunity for Mityana and we must welcome our visitors in time," Kakooza said.
