Okello blames the accident to reckless driving on the side of the driver of the truck.

One person has died and three others critically injured in a bus accident at Acwera Bridge on Nebbi- Pakwach road in Nebbi district.

The accident involved Baby coach bus registration number UAS 307R and a truck from Pakwach loaded with cassava chips.

The deceased has been identified as Brown, the driver of the bus.

Those injured have been identified as Francis Kabeje, a resident of Kampala, Janet Litula, a Congolese national and Nicholas Onegiu, a policeman attached to Paidha police station. They have been rushed to Nebbi hospital for treatment.

Mapera Okello, one of the accident survivors said the bus was travelling from Paidha to Kampala.

Okello blames the accident to reckless driving on the side of the driver of the truck.

According to Okello, the driver of the truck was coming at a high speed and in the process of negotiating a sharp corner at the bridge; he lost control and hit the bus on the side of the driver, killing him instantly.

"We were traveling from Paidha to Kampala.  And our driver was okay. I think the driver of the truck takes this blame, he was so reckless. He was driving at a terrible speed yet he knew he was approaching a bridge," he said.

Richard Olili, the Nebbi district traffic officer confirmed that the accident occurred at about 1:00pm.

Olili, however, didn't elaborate saying the details about the accident were still scanty.

"It's true there was a fatal accident, but I think I will provide you the detail later," he said.

When New Vision visited Nebbi hospital, the victims were groaning in pain as the health personnel struggled to treat them.

A source at the hospital that preferred anonymity said those injured are in critical but stable conditions.
