Mowzey's family thankful for support

WAKISO - The family of fallen musician Moses Ssekibogo (Mowzey Radio) has lauded Ugandans and for the overwhelming support they gave them after the Afrobeats star's death last week.

They particularly thanked President Yoweri Museveni and city socialite Bryan White for their contribution towards Radio's medical bills and funeral.

Radio, who made up one half of the Goodlyfe Crew that also features Weasel (Douglas Mayanja), lost the battle for life at Case Hospital in Kampala Thursday last week.

His death, which occured 10 days after getting involved in a bar brawl in Entebbe, shocked the nation and beyond, sparking an outpouring of tributes.

Some people,  prime suspect Godfrey Wamala alias Troy, have been arrested in connection with the January 22 attack and charged in court.

"We, as members of the family of Ssekibogo Moses Radio, would like to convey our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency the President and Ugandans for their support rendered to us," Meddie Ssembaji, Radio's brother, told a press conference at Nakawuka in Wakiso district on Friday.

"From the time the President heard about Mowzey's problem, he came in and handled the medical bills. When our brother died, the President intervened, so that the late gets a decent burial," he added.

Ssembaji said the late musician's family has also received a call from the Case Hospital management to pick the unused funds.

During the press conference, at Radio's mother's home in Kagga, Radio's brothers also thanked local entertainers and ordinary Ugandans that contributed money towards the burial arrangements and for showing up in large numbers at his sendoff last Saturday.

Ssembaji said: "Bryan White also came in and offered sh25m towards the medical bills and sh5m as motivation for the doctor who was treating the late. We thank Bryan White as a family, but we can't abundantly reward him. His biggest reward is in heaven."

Meanwhile, the unfinished house that Radio was building for his mother Jane Kasubo is being worked on. There is also a structure being elevated to shelter Radio's grave. According to the family, all construction has been sponsored by Bryan White.

Frank Ssekibogo, also Radio's brother, said White contributed sh10m for the public address system, stage tents and chairs, among other things, during the funeral.

Frank also apologised on behalf of the family over the fracas that ensured during the burial, where a number of people lost belongings, such as phones, to suspected thugs.

Some people, including a Police officer, sustained injuries during chaotic scenes at the well-attended funeral.
