On Wednesday, a Malaba clearing agent, George Omunyin, nearly lost his car when the thugs broke into it in broad day light.

The car had been parked near a flat next to Port Spring Village Hotel when thieves struck.

Omunyin only returned to the utter shock of crowd surrounded the thugs who were ready to drive off with his car. This was the second attempt on this particular car.

The incidence comes after a wave of undetected car robberies that has hit the district in the recent past. In connection to car robberies, the Police, mid this month, arrested Ivan Akwang and Jovian Munyawo, both residents of Kwapa sub-county, a Police officer and two garage operators and recovered a stolen Toyota Premio which had been fitted with fake number plates.

Bukedi regional Police commander, Julius Gobolo, said the racket is big and called on the general public to work with the Police in containing the challenge by reporting suspicious cars and people they see in their localities.

He appealed to the motorists to install security devices in their cars and to be careful while taking their vehicles to washing bays and garages.
