FDC youth mobiliser held over theft

KABALE: The Police in Kabale district are holding a 26-year-old man on allegations of burglary and theft.

The suspect has been identified as Stanslus Owamani, commonly known as Kakyimbiri, the chairperson of Kabale district Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) youth forum. He was arrested on Sunday.

According to the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, it is alleged that Owamani broke into a house of Everest Tugeineyo, a businessman of Kigongi A, Kabale municipality and stole property, sh450,000 and an identity card.

Residents, who were joined by the Police hunt Owamani and netted him with the said property.

Maate said when the suspect reached the police station, he was searched and found in possession of a smartphone that was stolen on December 30 last year. The phone was allegedly stolen from the home of Diaz Maniragaba of Igabiro cell in Kabale municipality.

According to the Police, Owamani has been on the wanted list over a series of theft allegations.

"We have had many complaints concerning theft involving this man. I wonder why such a young man spends time engaging in illegal activities. We shall investigate the issue and charge him accordingly," Maate said.
