Steven Mukwala warranted his call up to fill the void left behind by suspended key figure Shaban Muhammad. Mukwala's late goal yesterday cancelled out Francesco Madinga's effort to propel the Hippos to the semis in the COSAFA U-20, Zambia.

Despite appearing as guests in the tournament, Uganda are owning the stage at the moment especially after becoming the first side to progress to the semifinals.

The travelling side needed just a point to qualify and thanks to Mukwala's 81 minute goal after Malawi took the lead in the 71 minute in the group A action.

Uganda finished the group five points, level with Malawi who will also progress to the last eight. The top team in each group and runner-up qualify to the next round of action.

A volatile Shaban Muhammad was given matching orders in the 2-2 stalemate against Swaziland Friday. Despite his absentia, the KCCA striker leads the scoring charts with 3 goals. Vipers' Mukwala and Hamisi Tibita were the best available options following Shaban's suspension.

Meanwhile holders Zambia did not make the cut to the semis inspite of a 2-0 triumph over Swaziland.

The action continues today with Lesotho welcoming a challenge from Angola and Zimbabwe entertaining Namibia.
