Cranes captain Onyango named on CAF awards shortlist

Onyango has chance of defending the African Player of the Year – based in Africa award, which he won early this year

Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango has been named on the shortlist for the African Player of the Year and the Player of the Year (based in Africa) by CAF.

Eleven players made it on the shortlist for the African Player of the Year while 10 players made the cut for the Player of the Year (Based in Africa). This was done through a voting process by the members of the CAF technical and development committee, CAF media experts' panel and independent media and TV consultants from a 30-man list from both awards that was released earlier.

The final shortlist that will have three players from both awards will involve head coaches or technical directors of the National Associations and 10 members from the independent media and TV consultants group as well as national team captains to carry on the voting exercise

Onyango has chance of defending the African Player of the Year - based in Africa award, which he won early this year.

The  winners  for  both  categories  will be  rewarded  at the awards Gala that will be held on January  4,  next  year  in Accra, Ghana.
