Former national athlete Godfrey Nuwagaba has passed away in Addis Ababa.

Nuwagaba has been serving as the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) and Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) treasurer. He was manager of prominent local athletes Stephen Kiprotich, Joshua Cheptegei and Moses Kipsiro.

According to UAF organising secretary, Fausino Kiwa, Nuwagaba was aboard an Emirates flight to Dubai yesterday with his wife when he collapsed while working on his laptop.

The plane made an emergency landing in Addis Ababa where an unconscious Nuwagaba was taken to a hospital where he passed away on Tuesday morning.

Kiwa said the federation is still waiting for updates from the deceased's family.

In his heyday, Nuwagaba used to compete in 5000m, 10,000m and cross-country races.
