Kisekulo, Ssentongo win Kyotera district elections

Ssentongo won the Woman Member of Parliament seat, while Kisekulo became Kyotera’s first local council (LC5) chairperson.

Kyotera district elections ended peacefully with Democratic Party's 
(DP) Robinah Nakasirye Ssentongo and NRM's Patrick Kintu Kisekulo emerging winners. 
 
Ssentongo won the Woman Member of Parliament seat, while Kisekulo became Kyotera's first local council chairperson.
 
Ssentongo defeated her four opponents after scoring 21,731 votes. 
 
Her closest rival, Rachael Nakitende (NRM), scored 15,511 while other independents in the race scored below 4000 votes.
 
Cissy Nantongo; 3,272, Phelister Nassali Nakato; 2,224 and Joweria Nabaale 266 votes.
 
For the district chairperson, Kisekulo got 19,481 votes defeating Ziriddamu who scored 10,692. 
 
Initially, Kisekulo defeated Ziriddamu in the NRM primaries which Ziriddamu contested and opted to stand independent. 
 
DP's Tom Darlington Balojja scored 1,080. 
Leticia Nantaba, the regional returning officer, declared results at amid tight security.
 
According to Nantaba, the exercise was free and fair. Nantaba replaced Daniel Baguma who was rejected by DP and some independent candidates who accused him of incompetence and lack of integrity.
 
They alleged he would not be reliable since High Court ruled that he had messed up the 2016 elections in Rakai district.
