Basena has written to UPDF requesting for a two month break from the club

FUFA has extended Moses Basena and his assistants' mandate to take full control of the national senior team the Uganda Cranes until after the 2018 World Cup qualifiers when they will start receiving applications for the job of head coach.

The FUFA executive committee on Tuesday agreed that Basena and his assistants Matia Lule, goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba and helper Ibrahim Ssekajja should steer the team until after 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Basena stepped in after Serbian Milutin Sredejovic quit the July and he has since guided Uganda Cranes to two home wins and two away losses.

"The FUFA executive has resolved to receive application for the job after the World Cup qualifiers. The current team of coaches will continue to take charge," FUFA CEO Edgar Watson announced to the press on Wednesday.

Basena is currently the UPDF FC coach in the Uganda Premier League and was also tapped to coach the national U23 team.

Basena said he had written to UPDF requesting for a two month break from the club as he concentrates on the Uganda Cranes.

"I have written to UPDF to give at least two months break because I want to give my total concentration to the country. You can't be sure of the national team programme but I'm seeing myself coaching the Cranes for a long time and that requires 100 per cent concentration," Basena who had a meeting with his technical staff on Wednesday to decide players to call for the qualifier against Ghana next month said.

National Women Football teams

Former Crested Cranes assistant coach Faridah Bulega is the new national women football team coach replacing Majidah Nantanda.

Bulega who disapproved of how Nantanda handled the Crested Cranes when Uganda hosted the women CECAFA championships in Jinja now takes full charge.

She will be deputized by Edward Kaziba and goalkeeper trainer Daniel Kiwanuka, who is also in charge of the national women U20 team. At the same time Matia Lule takes charge of the Uganda U20 (Uganda Hippos).
