Kabale launches HIV testing campaign

In a bid to reduce the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Kabale Municipality, authorities have launched a campaign that will see over 90% of residents test for the virus.

The campaign was this morning launched by the Kabale municipal mayor, Emmanuel Ssentaro Byamugisha, who was accompanied by other municipal leaders. Byamugisha said the campaign aims at having more people test for HIV/AIDS and those found with the virus will instantly start medication.

"We hope this campaign will see us test at least 90% of our residents. This is aimed at reducing the prevalence of the virus around," said Byamugisha.

Sam Arineitwe, the Kabale central division chairperson said: "We started by cleaning the town to show people that good health starts with a clean environment. We are also going to do free cervical cancer screening, blood donation and free distribution of condoms".
