Team Uganda arrives in Taipei

Delegations have continued to arrive in Taipei as the countdown continues to the Opening Ceremony of the 2017 Summer University games on Saturday.

Uganda will start her medal quest on Monday in Swimming and Basketball (Women).

The Ugandan contingent of 52 athletes and officials arrived in Taiwan, Taipei City last evening. The delegation was received at Taoyuan International Airport by the Association Uganda University Sports (AUUS) general secretary Patrick Ssebuliba.

"All are well, excited and looking forward to the games", explained Ssebuliba.

Athletes took time off to take selfies at the airport before being whisked away to the Athletes' Village set to house more than 7,708 athletes during the competition.

"The journey was long, good to be here just in time and happy to be head of delegation for team Uganda at these games," an excited Paul Mark Kayongo narrated.

Activities begin Saturday with the Opening Ceremony, with around 12,000 people expected at Taipei Stadium. A total of 141 nations are due to compete in 21 sports which will be held in venues in Keelung, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu .

Uganda entered athletes in Swimming, Badminton, athletics, Tennis and Basketball (Ladies). At the last games in South Korea 2015, Uganda finished 36th on the medal table with a gold medal in the 1500m won by Ndejje's Dorcus Ajok.
