Tennis playing children across the country have an opportunity to test their skills during the Leopards Tennis Tournament at the International School of Uganda, August 12.
According to the tournament director Noah Ssengendo, the one-day tournament is targeting primary school children between the ages of 8-12 years.
He said the aim of the tournament is to encourage participation and competition and also encourage many more to take up the sport.
"We want to give kids who play tennis an opportunity to challenge themselves in a tournament not only to improve their skills but also work towards a target. Depending on the outcome of this inaugural edition, we plan to hold at least four similar tournaments annually," Ssengendo said.
"We are targeting as many participants as possible but the deadline for receiving entries is Thursday (August 10)," Ssengendo
Registration can be done online on the ISU website (www.isu.ac.ug) or sent by e-mail to tzour@isu.ac.ug while the participation fee of sh20, 000 each will be paid on the competition day.
Ssengendo said there would be gold, silver and bronze medals for the top performers in all categories. The tournament will start with the under 8 competition on a mini tennis court between 8-10am while the under 10 will play on a half court, 10-12.30pm with the under 12 playing from 2-4.30pm.
Uganda Tennis Association president Cedric Babu is expected to be the chief guest.
