The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, has commended the Anglican Church for its dynamic role in the country's development. He thanked in a special way the leadership of the Anglican Diocese of Kigezi, for coming up with good social and economic development programmes, which have improved the quality of life of the people in the area.

Rugunda made his remarks during a fundraising dinner for the golden jubilee of the Anglican Diocese of Kigezi, which took place at the residence of Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, in Namirembe on Friday.
The function was intended to raise money for the completion of Rugarama Nurses' Hospital, which will be the monument for the diocese's golden jubilee, due to take place on August 17-19.

The chairman of the diocese's planning and development committee, Manzi Tumubweine, said the project needed about sh400m to be completed.
Over sh100m was raised in cash and pledges during the function.
